70's style wooden box, help!

I want a light and comfortable living room, as it connects to the porch overlooking the river. Should I just paint everything? And what colour scheme do you think would work well? Sorry I suck at this stuff, ideas would be appreciated, thanks.

This is a gorgeous room!!! For light and comfortable, I'd recommend leaving the ceiling as is and painting the wood walls off white, or even just white. It will look like shiplap

Also, sheer white curtains or pale blue curtains will help make the room super bright.

Thanks, I'm a wood lover too, but this room in anything but the middle of summer is extremely dark and claustrophobic and the different woods don't match they just clash.

yes, paint the walls a creamy white and leave the ceiling as is.
I did it in our bathroom and love it.
