I'm remodeling my laundry room including new floors. When I moved the W&D I found evidence that there was a lot of water damage in my home's past. After removing all 3 layers of vinyl and the particleboard underlayment, I'm down to the subfloor. Generally, the subfloor seems in good shape. At some point, somebody drilled two holes through the subfloor and the surface of the plywood flaked off from the water damage.
The subfloor is 1/2", I'm planning on putting 1/2" plywood underlayment and then Flexitec/resilient flooring. I read somewhere that if the subfloor isn't bouncy then it is structurally sound. I can stand/walk on this corner without any give in the flooring, there is a joist that runs 4" away from the back wall which probably helps. My joists are 24" OC, so if I replace the subfloor it will mean adding a lot of extra blocking. I'm planning on putting a stacked W+D in this corner where previously it only had a washer (the dryer was next to it).
So, what do you think? Do I need to replace the subfloor?
