Would peel and stick tile stick to tar paper?

For a rental property, I was thinking about making a floating peel and stick floor from fakewood peel/stick vinyl plank over sheets of tar paper.

I don't want to stick vinyl tile directly to the concrete slab because it would be a bish to remove later, and the roughness of the slab would not allow for good adhesion anyway.

If not tar paper, then what?

This would be in the living room and hallway. All the other wet areas already have ceramic tile.

if you want a floating floor go with laminate or engineered. peel and stick over tar paper would be a disaster unless you like doing the floor twice.

Peel and stick is by far on of the worst types of flooring you can buy.

Try using a vinyl plank floor. Lays just like the laminate, but is 100% vinyl.

Go with tile or get loose lay vinyl which is one piece of vinyl that you dont glue amd comes in many styles.

You are making an assumption and creating a stigma that all renters are the same. Being cheap and making it look cheap, will end up turning away business, due to it will show that you do not care.

As for laminate flooring, there are different grades. Go with commercial type flooring if you want something that will last, not something you just picked up off the remnant rack at the big box.

Greg makes a very good point. While a little more expensive, a commercial grade linoleum stands up to the abuse of hundreds of people daily.

If I walked into a potential rental home and saw that the landlord was this cheap to install peel and stick over felt, I would walk. There is a BIG difference between
"cost effective" choices and "cheap." Buy a product that will last and you won't be doing this floor again for a while. For what it's worth, floating laminate or engineered wood WILL hold up under traffic and like was stated already, don't assume everyone will beat up your house and not care about the conditions THEY live in.

I don't assume. I've SEEN it in the past 20 years of renting out my house. Only 1 out of 10 people keeps my floor clean.
The other 9 live like animals almost, and they're fine with it.

It's good to go with an upscale vinyl ; its easier to replace and doesn't cost a fortune.

You are renting to the wrong people.
