wood floors lacking luster

Hi, I've got a hardwood floor that is probably 70% or so thru its life - and in need of a sand/refinish or replacement.

Meanwhile, it has sort of a grayish effect to it, and doesn't hold a shine well at all. I'd love to hear what products people use to brighten and bring floors back to life temporarily. I think my wife used Murphy's Oil Soap - which didn't seem to do much.
