Wood Floor Finishing Question:
I have the original oak floor in a fiftie's home. The floor was refinished by the previous owner. I did some tile work on a hearth and taped off the surrounding floor to protect it. Upon completion, the tape lifted off the newer polyurethane finish leaving very noticeable marks.

The floorboards themselves look fine. I would like to remove just the polyurethane finish. Is this possible to do?

Maybe using a rotary floor buffer with a screen?
Some type of chemical?

Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Floor Finishing
Hi There, Looks like your going to need to re-sand the area, as far as i know there is no way of removing poly without having to re-sand, I am a floor sanding and finishing Op with ten years in the trade:wink:, you may be able to do just a section but it will come up lighter in colour but will darken down with age. I found a great website that showed you how to sand wood floors, don't know if it will be any help to you,

what kind of tape did you use? cause you may be looking at a peeling floor in the future and may want to think about resanding the entire floor. If someone recoated the floor and didn't abrade the surface first, or if the floor had any wax or chemical buildup...the coat prolly won't adhere for long.

SM probably knows better but if tape pulled up the poly, seems something is wrong. Poly is a son of a gun to get off when you sand it, tape shouldn't of hurt it, just my guess anyway
