Why would the cement they poured crack? In a day!

I'm having laminate flooring installed in my house. they poured cement on my subfloor saying they needed to level it out when I woke up this morning it was all cracked up. I think they used too much water in the mixture. Am I wrong? I could really use some info on this. I need to know what's going on. Thanks

was this cement or a leveling compound. it could be cracking from too much water or not enough water. if it was a cement product and they didnt wet the slab before application, this could have pulled the moisture for the cement too fast causing it to check crack. could have been applied too thick also. i would find out what product they used to be sure it was correct for the application and to see if it was applied correctly. this will need to be removed and done correct before you proceed with the laminate.

i would find out what product they are using. if it is over hardwood, a cement product will not bond correctly and it will crack at every joint as the wood moves. i would look into a vinyl leveling compound that can be applied over properly prepared wood.

You are probably describing SLC (Self Levelling Compound).

SLC's are great and trustworthy products that perform very well. They do require the use of a primer on the substrate before they are installed. The primer retards the drying process. Most SLC's are RS (Rapid Set) and are walkable in about four hours. Small surface cracks are normal and come from surface tension that develops naturally during the quick-setting process. Not to worry.

It's likely you are wrong.

Don't worry.
