Why so many short pieces

Why are there so many short pieces of flooring in each box of lock and fold wood flooring. Is it just the choose of wood I made or is this typical?

It's suppose to be like that so there's no need to cut any, just make shore you stagger your joints 12" away from each other.

Do I still use the longest pieces first or do I inter disburse the shorter pieces in between? I don't want to end up with only short pieces at the end.

mix up your sizes.

randomly.

Because the short pieces can be made from shorter/smaller pieces of wood. THis allow the manufacturer to make more money from lesser quality/sized lumber.

Hardwood flooring with a rustic feel tends to come in random sizes to make it seem more human made. It also helps with laying as mentioned to have varying sizes to minimise cutting.

It's best to start with a short boards, some manufacturers even call the shorter boards 'starter boards'.
