When to use self-leveling compound

Was reading the recent posts about SLC and I have a related question. I am putting down 18" square tiles in the bathroom. Subfloor is down, but in three pieces. The piece in the middle is ever so slightly lower than the two others -- 1/16" to 1/32". Does this call for SLC or can it just be corrected with thinset as I lay the tiles? If SLC, can I just apply it to the slightly sunken portion of the subfloor? Thanks.

Just go for it! You don't need any SLC. You may be being a little anal if you think anything is going to matter dealing with only 1/16" to 1/32" of variance when using 18" tiles. That slight variance may even correct itself if your lucky.
