What kind of water sealer for concrete/brick?

I have a concrete porch with brick facing. I've seen other peoples homes built this way and the mortar joint between the concrete porch and the brick facing is badly cracked, apparently from rain/freeze cycles. What kind of sealant works well? Also, is there anything I can mix or apply that will keep the surface from being slippery when it's wet? Mix sand with the sealant maybe? Thanks.
