What does 100% tile coverage mean?
 

Does 100% tile coverage, mean that when I pull the tile up that I should not see any voids from the trowel notches? So for example, if I used a 1/2" deep trowel notch held at 45 degrees, my mortar depth will be a 3/8" max before setting the tile. Then to compress the mortar into the void areas, it the total mortar depth would be reduced in half or about 3/16" deep after pressing the tile completely in to level out the mortar. Is this right.

Or is coverge just referred to what sticks to teh top of the tile? If I backbutter, 100% will stick to the top of the tile regardless of how hard I press the tile into the mortar.
