Water based polyurethane

I would like to use water based polyurethane on a maple floor. Everything I've read says you need to use a base coat first. Any suggestions and brands would be greatly appreciated? Thanks all

A base coat of what?
Never heard that one before.
Water based is nice because it's easy to use and drys fast but will not hold up as long as oil based.

Your going to need a lot of coats. The more you put on the longer it's going to last.

Min wax makes a water based base coat to seal the wood. It also talks about how the water base urethane can discolor if it's put directly in the wood. So I'm assuming the base coat is oil based. Thanks for the info tho!

Never heard of this one either. I used the w/b minwax on a pine floor I did for a customer. I used a Transtint water based dye first to color the floor. W/b dyes will raise the grain slightly. I sanded the floor lightly with a fine scotch brite pad (white one). Applied 6 coats of the w/b minwax with a lamb's wool applicator. Scuffed lightly with the white scotchbrite pad in between coats. Finish ended up nice, customer has a large dog which hasn't hurt the finish.

Thanks for the info it's a maple floor that I'm going to leave natural color.

I would go with Bona seal for the base coat and Bona traffic for the finish coatings.

From our experience with onsite finished hardwood flooring; Bona is (also) the recommended brand for water based applications.
