Vinyl Tile adhesive

What is the best way to remove vinyl tile glue on wood floors so that they can be sanded and refinished?

What color adhesive? How old ?

If the adhesive is black and looks like tar---scrape it off with a paint scraper---that is cut back--and may contain some asbestos--

Extra care must be taken when sanding that also.

Let us know---

If it's not the black stuff, they make adhesive removers. Depending on what is will probably determine how well it works, in my opinion worth a try.

It is a glue like substance (kind of like tree sap) with some black that looks like tar. I have half of the tiles up so far - will a sander be able to get off the adhesive or will I have to get that off first prior to sanding? Thanks so much for responding!!

Do not sand the black adhesive. It probably contains asbestos.
