Vinyl Tile

Hey guys in the process of redoing a kitchen that currently has vinyl tile layed over underlay. The Vinyl tile is being replaced with newer Vinyl tile getting the tile off is a pain but i've managed to get it off, the vinyl tile seems to of left a tacky residue on the underlay. My question is will this be okay to lay the tile directly over, if not how should I go about removing the tackyness?

Replace the underlayment is the best bet. Quicker, cheaper in the long run and will get better results.

You can skim coat it with a portland base cement like Ardex Feather Finish to encapsulate the tackyness

yes that is good to fix the tacky floor, but will you then have a good surface for installing new vinyl tile?

Bailey,

You didn't pose any concerns over the condition of the old underlayment, only that it's sticky. Sticky is not a problem. If the floor is as flat as your kitchen table, go ahead and install the new tiles.

Yes thats what Ardex is made for. Its a flooring specific feather finish. It will also fill small voids, its the stuff I use to flash the plywood seams with

Alright thanks guys, yeah there is nothing at all wrong with the underlayment just that its tacky from the old tiles,
