Vinyl Shower Floor
I have a shower that appears to have a vinyl tile floor with the walls being ceramic tile. When I bought the house I could tell that shower had not been used in a very long time but someone tried to reseal bad grout with some kind of white silicone. The silicone pulled up without any effort. Now I need to re-grout the tile but my question is where the ceramic meets the vinyl. Can I use grout on that? It doesn't look like there used to be anything under that silicone. I doubt the previous owner took time to remove what ever was sealing the vinyl to the ceramic. Thanks.

Pictures please? There should never be a vinyl tile floor in a shower period. That's a nightmare waiting it happen, and it won't wait long if you actually try to use it like that.

Anytime there is a change of plane, like when a wall meets the floor, use caulking.

It sounds like it is possible someone tried to "band-aid" a failing shower. Can you post pics?

Thanks for the pics, that shower looks lovely. I recommend you wear shoes in there.

Thats not vinyl, those tiles on the floor are porcelain mosaics just as they should be. I can also tell you the lower walls and especially the curb is full of mold. You intend to keep this? Maybe a good cleaning and grout/caulk removal will buy you some time.

That shower is history and with the abundance of mold growing inside the leaking walls it is time to take it all out and have the health hazards neutralized before you touch or breathe too much in that area.:)

A good cleaning ain't gonna happen.:)

Thanks for the replies.

Looks like I will focus on tearing out this bathroom before the other.

Unfortunately (and in my experience) a dollar spent on that shower now to repair it would be a dollar wasted.:)

Where the floor and walls meet. Should that have been grouted in the first place or caulked like they attempted years ago?
