Vinyl over concrete

I pulled up the vinyl in my kitchen which was glued in spots to my concrete floor. Besides the places where the glue was applied to the concrete there appears to be a "waxy" substance on the surface of the concrete. I'm going to lay a new ceramic tiles floor and want to be sure I do the best job I can. What is the "waxy" substance I'm seeing? Is it a vapor barrier? Will the thinset stick to it?

i would have to say with no pics...some type of adhesive from vinyl tile. Maybe its been broke down from being there for so long? i would do whatever i can to get it up, if you dont know what it is. with my experience of laying tile in commercial kitchens with the grease and other weird liquids and such, u want to do whatever u can to get that film up. so you can be sure the thinset will stick good to your concrete.

im just saying

What is the best way to get the glue off the concrete floor once the vinyl linoleum is pulled up?
