vinyl floor tile adhesive residue removal

I have a cement floor with slate tile on it, someone put stick on vinyl tiles on the slate. I pulled the vinyl tiles up today and the floor is so sticky that I pulled a shoe off while walking on it. I don't care about the slate, I am going to put vinyl tiles back over it anyway, but I have to get that glue off. I tried wetting it down good and scraping. I was able to get a little of it up but it is so gummy it will take forever. Any ideas of the best adhesive removers so this doesn't take me forever to get done? TIA

Both of these are flammable so you could blow yourself up if you are careless---

Mineral spirits---and xylene---These will work--But shut off the pilot lights on your water heater ,furnace and stove if you are any where close to them----

Shoul have allowed it to remain and used it to enhance the bond of your new vinyl tile installation.

Thanks for the replies, I will try the mineral spirits. I thought about leaving the glue on but it was so sticky I couldn't move the tiles if I got them on wrong.

How's that going to change?

This is thick glue, I suspect maybe someone used extra glue on these. I can slide a tile a little if I start by putting just a small corner or end down. Not on this stuff though.
