Vinyl

I don't want to rip up the OLD tile in my moms house . Can I lay thin set over it to even it out then lay vinyl over it in the kitchen ?

Of course you can.....will it look good and last? I have my doubts. I'm not sure how well the thin set is going to adhere to the tile....especially if it's ceramic....

Hopefully some of the experts will chime in....

And...chances are this will get moved to the flooring section....

I m just looking to find a way to level out the tiles instead of ripping them up and laying a new sub floor .

What kind of 'leveling' are you in need of?

Are you trying to cover old ceramic or old vinyl tile?

One room is over vinyl and one is over tile.

Either sheet vinyl or squares could be placed over the old ceramic---however you will need to trowel on some Ardex Feather finish to level off the tiles--

This job is a bit of a pain in the back---troweling a flat surface requires a good hand---Embossing leveler would also work---but is quite expensive.

Use a bond enhanser on the old vinyl and the new Ardex --Henreys makes one---look in the flooring section.

What you want to do is an 'iffy' installation and may fail after a few years---

It's just a quick fix for now . I can't afford to redo my moms floors the way it should since I have 3 homes of my own to deal with. Thanks for the help though .
