Using GP Dens shield over vinyl floor

Hello,
I am a newbie to the list....so here goes!!
I am installing a ceramic tile floor in our entry way this weekend, and have a question of how to attach the GP Dens shield backer board. I am going over 3/4" plywood, covered by luan and vinyl flooring. I am using 1/4" Dens shield to achieve the required 1 1/4 " thickness. Do I thin set the backer down and screw it, or just screw it down and forget the glue?

Norm,
If you go to the GP site:
http://www.gp.com/build/DocumentView...elementid=3112
they provide instructions.
Nothing there about your application. Why not telephone them and ask?:

ALL tile backer boards require thinset mortar under them. You should also removed the vinyl AND the 1/4" underlayment. Whoever told you 1 1/4" is required and that 1/4" underlayment counts is wrong.

Hello,
I called GP this A.M. They also said to not use the Dens Shield backer over vinyl. Looks like I will be pulling up the vinyl and luan. Do I then use 1/2" backer over the 3/4" sub floor?

If the subfloor system, (framing and if the 3/4" ply is in good condition), all you need is 1/4" backer. Use thicker CBU if you need the height. The backer adds little or nothing in strength.

Have you checked the deflection factor of your joists yet? How old is the house? Check and report back; the type and size of your joists, grade and species would be helpful, the unsupported span, and spacing from one joists to the next.

I am at work now (shame on me), but the house is 15 years old, the joist are 16' OC, I think they are Douglas Fir?? I have room to put in 1/2" without having to cut off any doors etc., plus this would bring the floor up to the adjacent room height. Thanks for all the help!!
