using on demand water for a heated tile floor

We have a room in our basement that we want to remove the carpet and install tile. We are planning on installing heating elements under the tile, either electric or hot water. We are also thinking about installing an on-demand water heater. Can a tankless hot water heater be used as the source of hot water for the heated tile floor?
