Use cork tiles under basement carpet

I am currently finishing my basement. My father in law has told my wife about placing cork tile on the cement floor under the carpet and pading. to help with insulation and so forth. I have never hear of anyone doing this and I was just trying to get some thoughts on doing it. The wife keeps asking me when are we getting the cork tiles and I keep saying I want ot ask someone about it first. Any input would be great.

Thanks in advance,
Sal

if you lay the cork flooring, there will be no way to lay the pad or stretch it in properly.
if you glue the pad or the carpet to the cork, it may come loose in time.
why not lay cork tiles, and then a couple big area rugs?

I have heard of it, but not too often, If you do that you would need to install it like a pad, and then you can overlay a thinner pad on top. But you could also just get a good padding and that would do much the same.
