uneven floor

hi everyone, happy thanksgiving to all.
I have a vinyl tile kitchen floor that has become uneven due to small craking of the cement underneath (one inch of gyp-crete on top of likely pressed wood ,,,50 year old calif ,, 2 nd floor.).
I am planning to install new vinly tiles on top.
I think i have to install a layer of plywood first?
questions, what type of wood, what about joints, how to attach to one inch gyp-crete on wood (should i glue to old vinyl tiles? and then nail ) what type of fasteners that wont pull out or raise up ???
Thank you for your knowledge (learned the hard way) and help.
I have never installed underlayment previously.

You have already asked enough of the right questions to know that you can do what you are suggesting.

Why not patch the cracks and go for it as is ?

I have "patched" it previously and seems to hold up only a short time.
In addition it covers a large area.
Flooring material is $$ and it would be nice to do a job that lasts.
Need advice from someone thats done this perticular job and knows the do's and dont's. Hate to do it and find my mistakes after i'm done.
I think i've been there !!!
Bud, you probally know every tile answere in the book, 1529 posts.

Nope! Not really. Still learning every day, it's an evolving industry where only the strong survive. Been at it for thirty-three years and still don't have all the answers.
