Uneven Bathroom subfloor

My husband and I just bought our first home. Renovations have not been easy, but we are getting it done. It's now time for the bathroom. The bathroom has ugly vinyl tiles and we would like to replace with ceramic tile, seems easy right? NO! The bathroom sits 3/4" high that the rest of the house. When standing in the hallway, you can see the plywood underneath. Its almost like I have to step up to get in the bathroom. Any suggestions on revmoving that plywood? What's going to be under there? What size plywood should i replace it with? Or should I use cement board? Please help me LOL. Thanks

Uneven Bathroom subfloor

Is there a floor HVAC register in the room? If so lift it out so you can see what's under the flooring.

On TV they make it look like tile can be installed over anything. Not true.
Things that can not be under tile include, louon, partical board, linolium, CDX plywood, MDF.

Also floor joist spacing, width of joist, spans come into play.
Tile can not have any movement under it or the grout and tiles are just going to crack.
