underfloor heating with slate tiles on wooden floorboards

In a new kitchen extension , we have the original flooring in one part of the room. We intend to have underfloor heating but have been told that thisn't possible for this section of the extension. Are there any solutions to this problem?

I'm not quite understanding your situation. You have a wood floor with slate tiles over it? Or you have slate tile next to wood floor? If it's next to the wood floor there shouldn't be any reason why you can't have underfloor heat. There will be some expansion / contraction where the 2 meet but if you pre-plan the transition with a maintanable product like Big Stretch caulk or something of the sorts you should be alright.
