Ugly Cold Floor in Basement Washroom Makes Wife Grumpy

My ugly cold basement washroom floor is making my wife grumpy so my idea is to put down some snazzy italian porcelain tiles to cheer her up.

I'd like to use a DRIcore subfloor to separate the tile from the pad and thus warm things up a bit. my concern is that i've heard that porcelain tile requires a very firm base or they will crack. do you think the DRIcore is firm enough that I can apply the tile directly to it?

if not, my other idea is to stick a layer of DITRA between the DRIcore and porcelain tile to give the tile some separation from the DRIcore. the DITRA adds a couple of bucks per square foot but i'll use it if needed. thoughts?

I've been laid off and now have a bit of time to work on the house. this will be the 1st project to tackle.

Thanks in advance.

The electric heat grid was my thoughts exactly. I'm not touching the romantic stuff.

the washroom's small (9x9) so it might be worth it. are they expensive? approx. cost per sq.ft?

Checked HD today, a 20" x 26' electric heat grid goes for about $275 not including themostat. i might get one for the upstairs washroom that is used more often but maybe too pricey for the amount of joy i'll get with this room.

I looked at the matts too & passed
Instead I bought the wire
For the same $$ as the matt I was able to do the bathroom & thehallway outside the bathroom...plus a little down the long hallway

I walk around barefoot or in socks a lot
The warm 70 degree tiles really feel a lot better on the feet
Plus our bathroom does not have a radiator

I will be installing another setup on our 2nd floor
And alos in the new sunroom
