turning garage into living space: flooring question

Here's another easy one for you experts.

I'm looking at turning my attached 20x24 garage into living space. It will be simple ~ 7x20 utility closet for the furnace, water heater and laundry. The remaining space will be a family room.
My question is what to do with the concrete floor. Its not exactly level and has some cracking in it. I was thinking about some kind of floating floor but wouldn't I need to have the floor level before starting this? if so, what would be the best way to do this?

Thanks!

turning garage into living space: flooring question

Is your garage lower than the rest of your house?

I should be more specific, is the garage slab lower than the top of the sub-floor of the main structure?

Andy.

You can use a floor level mix. Works really great. It's like a really thin mortar that levels itself. If it isn't terrible you can always just carpet it with a thick pad. We had a garage we did the same thing with. The floor was awful. But we diecided to carpet it. With a plush carpet you can't even tell the floor is uneven.

Yes, the garage floor is lower than the rest of the house. The house is on a crawlspace. 2 steps from the garage to the kitchen.

Thanks for the idea!
