transition to uneven rustic slate fireplace

Hi...I'm looking for some ideas on tranisitoning from our porcelain 12x24 tiles to our fireplace. The issue is that the fireplace is very rustice with big pieces of slate so the edging is uneven, Does anyone have any flexible suggestions?

a picture would help. any chance you could take a grinder and cut a line just above where the surface of the tile will be so they slide under a little? are you butting the tile to the hearth? is the hearth raised?
