Transition from hardwood to tile 1" higher

i have two levels in the floor. The tile is 1" higher than the hardwood. It feels like its just high enough to be a trip hazard, even with a transition piece. Is a transition piece appropriate for this situation? Are there transition pieces available for the 1" height?

1" transition is available and common for use in that situation, but that's not to say it won't be a trip hazard. The common 1" reducer I've seen is about 3-3.5" wide, but it's still fairly steep.

If possible, making a custom reducer that's a bit wider (to lessen the slope) might be the best option. I've seen one as wide as about 8", but it depends on the location, as to what you can fit and not look to outrageous.

wow 8" wide. That's like a mini ramp. Never seen a reducer like that before.

I actually asked the tiler his opinion bout this. I asked if it was better to slope the subfloor to create a ramp, but he said a transition piece was fine.

I think I will use your wide reducer idea. I just need to find something to match my hardwood.

It is a mini ramp! That was the point, because it's installed in a business, and anti-trip measures were a bit more important than in a home.

Come to think of it though, that 8" wide mini-ramp was an inch and a half increase in height.
