Transition flooring types

My question is basically our kitchen ad living room is one large room. We are replacing the flooring in both room, wide plank hardwood in living room and 6x24 white washed wood look tile in the kitchen, should we run the layout in the same direction or run the tile the opposite direction of the hardwood? Opinions please, I'm totally undecided.
