Transition from edge of step

Just about to lay my cement board but I wanted to get help with ideas on how to finish the edge of my tiles. I'm going to tile from my dining room to the family room. When you go from the dining room to the family room you take a step down to go to the family room which is carpeted. I've attached a photo of how the transition is. I plan on removing the wood bull nose edge, and the wood underneath the bull nose and the molding piece. I'm just stuck on what to put there once the tiles come up to the edge of the step. I know I should put some kind of transition to cover the edge of the tiles so the tiles don't get damaged from being stepped on. Hope this makes sense, and thanks for any help.

BTW, many grout manufactures also produce matching caulk - both sanded and unsanded -, so you can get a better match with the grout.
