transition between hardwood and laminate

Hello,
I replaced some damaged hardwood planks at the threshold between kitchen and dining room and I'm having a little difficulty with the transition. The dining room is oak hardwood, 0.75" thick. The kitchen is vinyl with wood subfloor and the total height is 1 inch.

I bought T-molding with a reducer but the U-channel is only 3/8" high, so it sits too deep in the groove between the 2 floors. In other words, the T-molding does reach far enough to click into place in the u-channel.

I've considered:
1. putting shims in the gap to bring the U-channel up so that the T-molding will click into place.
2. ripping another plank and bringing the hardwood right up to the vinyl (leaving an expansion gap) and using reducer (not a T-molding)

What are the pros and cons of each?
Thanks.

transition between hardwood and laminate

Go purchase a real wood T-mold that matches the wood laminate and nail it in place. I laminate t-mold will end up breaking on uneven surfaces.
