Trailer Home Bathroom Floor

Hey All -

Next week I'm going to be replacing the bathroom floor for a lady who lives in a trailer house. It is an older trailer, this is a second bathroom she doesn't use too often, and it's more or less a charity case.

At some point, that wonderful particle board crap was installed. It got wet and - wait for it - swelled up and became mush. I know, big surprise huhh? Obviously the particle board has to be removed. And, not being familiar with trailer house construction, I don't know what I'll find underneath it.

Questions:

1. If she wants tile, am I going to be okay laying OSB with cement board on top? Will that be strong enough?

2. What should I use if she wants linoleum?

3. Are there any random suggestions & advice you'd like to give?

It's a very small bathroom - probably 4x6 total - So cost of materials isn't going to be the biggest issue.

Thanks!

OSB under tile is never a first choice---use bc 3/4 ply--

You will probably find heavy sheet metal C-channel for floor joists--make sure you have screws for that.

If she goes with sheet goods--I'd still use the Ply---Fill the voids with putty or add 1/4 multi-ply underlayment.

Trailers are a poor candidate for tile,due to a flexible flooring system---I've done it without issues--but it's not ideal,----If she's plump,recommend the sheet goods.----Mike--
