I put a large bookcase on a sheet and slid it across a hardwood floor. After going through two rooms, I noticed that two trails had been left. Feeling them, they are not scratches or deep indentations, but the pressure of the bookcase has altered the color of the wood to make it look like there are 2 thick scratches across the floor. The trails are lighter in color. I was told by the local hardware store that people in this forum could help me. Please tell me there is some way to make these trails less obvious. Buffing? Mop n' Glo? Steam? Magic Marker? Anything!! Thanks!!
Never put mop and glo or any petro based floor cleaner on your hardwoods. If you did, it will be VERY hard to buff and coat as the poly will not adhere (do to the oils).
If there is no damage to the wood and only the poly then a buff and coat might be the answer. If the wood is indented beyond a certain extent then a resand is needed. Probably not what you wanted to hear.
O yeah.. Are your floors prefinished? If so, you might have a bit of a problem.
