Tiling straight onto chipboard

I have recently bought a newly converted flat. The flooring througout is a 15mm green chipboard.

Kitchen (6m2)- can I tile ceramic 450 x 450mm tiles straight onto the chipboard using flexible waterproof adhesives or do I need to put 6mm ply down first.

Bathroom (2.7m2) - can I tile medium sized mosaic travertine tiles straight onto the chipboard using flexible waterproof adhesives or do I need to put 6mm ply down first.

Would be grateful for some advice.

Tiling straight onto chipboard

install cement backerboard over the chipboard
you will most likely run into problems a couple years down the road if you install directly over wood

trowel thinset underneath the cement backerboard
and then screw off as per manufacturer recommendations.
then tile over cement backerboard system
