Tiling in a shower
I am being asked about a product called DensShield,
anyone have any experience with this product in a shower installation?
I am strongly suggesting he uses Durock or wonderboard as a backer for the tiles with kerdi as a water membrane. He wants to go with DensShield with no waterproofing membrane, just tile direct to the backer.
Even with cement board I am strongly suggesting he uses a waterproofing membrane.
I am always up to hearing any and all opinions on the subject.
denshield is a good product. easy to cut and install. i have used it in showers alot. do not use a vapor barrier behind it (manufacturer's instructions). Tape seams and corners. as far as waterproofing the surface of denshield, I personally do waterproof it . (The corners, seams, and slight recesses caused by the screw heads). i estimate i have used denshield for 8-9 years with no failures. (SO FAR!)
