tiling in alaska

I'll be buying a "basement" apartment in Anchorage Alaska soon and will be gutting the place and laying down tiles throughout. basement in quotes since I only have to take 3 steps down from ground level. I havent decided if I'll use ceramic or travertine yet. I have never done any serious home repair before-so I have to start with the questions somewhere. should I lay the tile first and then come in with the big kitchen appliances/tubs etc or should those big pieces go in first and lay the tile around? I'm assuming I'll be working off of a concrete (I'll have to check on that)

also do I have to do anything special because of the cold of Alaska?
I'm sure more questions will come in the future. should be fun to see how much damage I can do.

tiling in alaska

I would like you to repost after you have inspected the unit.
You will get better info from me when you are able to get more detailed.

Are you new up here?
Nothing special needed as far as tile goes...

looking forward to more info..
