tile under kitchen cabinets - yay or nay ?

i am getting ready to do my kitchen floor, which will be tile, but was thinking that a large chunk of the area will be covered by cabinets so why bother with tedious and expensive tiles if something less sightly yet equally functional can be substituted for cheaply ?

pros, cons, and what would THAT be ?

thanks,

If you are going to keep the same cabinets forever, never change anything, and you put the same thickness UNDER them of a different color etc then fine. I dont think it is worth it, you arent saving a thing labor wise, plus you now have to work MORE to be sure where you change over is FULLY HIDDEN and make super sure you dont grab wrong tile in the field and mess it all up

thanks but WHAT is that cheap flooring cover that i would substitute for in the hidden area ?

If it's a DIY project, the cost savings may not be too much... I think it's just a cleaner install if you tile underneath. Alos provides flexibility IF you need to change the layout in a few years time.

beta on workforce 550 tile cutter

the one that can be found at HD ? i believe $88. does it fit the bill for DIY and, if not, what should i be investing in ? i don't mind spending on quality tools as i see myself progressing in this line of interest past DIY eventually.

thanks,

I am currently using the $88.00 saw on 18" porcelain, I find it to do ok, it does chip a bit on the edges, but 99.9% of my cuts are going to be covered by trim. I'm happy with what it's doing on this job so far, have laid about 200sqft with it.
If you are looking to do more than diy home projects, I do not think it will be what you are looking for in the long run

It's a Workforce THD550 cheapo from Home Depot. $88.00.

I have the same saw and have put down around 400 sq ft. The saw is fine the blade it comes with is junk. If you buy this saw get a better blade.

I ran the tile under my kitchen cabinets and now I wish I hadn't. I want to replace the tile and will have to try to cut them back flush with the toe kick. It would have been easier to cut the tile to the toe kick to begin with.
