Is there something I'm missing in your question? In the end you want both waterproofed. What type of bench? Also depends on shape and its location. There's several variables.

Well I would either use concrete block or wood frame wraped in cbu. I realize the cbu would need to be wrapped. I am wondering specifically if it makes a difference wrapping a shower and then putting a waterproof bench on the ditra if water were to penetrate the tile and reach the ditra and run down the wall if it would get trapped under the bench. The other scenerio is that the water penetrates the tile runs down the wall across the top of the bench and down. Is that better than water running down the wall and behind the bench and under it and to the drain? The location would be along the back wall of the shower the full shower width.

How did Ditra enter this conversation?

I would build the bench and then waterproof it. You do not want water behind the blocks if you go that way.
