tile Q's new here...

hi everyone, i have been looking around this site for awhile now and there is alot of great info! so ill get right ot the point.

I have never done tile in my life, i want to tile my kitchen(currently has linoleum) on top of what i believe to be 3/4 inch plywood. can i tile over this? or would i need to rip up the linoleum? and also the plywood? could i just lay hardibacker over the linoleum and start tiling? another question i have is that the kitchen tile will but up to my hard woodflooring that i layed a few months back. will there be any problems with this?

thanks for taking the time to read my dumb questions lol. and thanks for all the advice in advance.

The sheet vinyl and the 1/4" underlayment should go---if your floor joists are good--the next step would be 1/4" backer board set into fresh thinset--then nailed or screwed--then modified thinset for the new tiles.

Let us know what the size of the floor joists---unsupported length and type.
One uf us will let you know if the floor system is stiff enough for tile.--Mike---
