Tile over Tile over Radiant Heat

I just bought a home on a slab with radiant hot water heat. The floor is all tiled on one level - about 22 years old and showing age. Can I tile over the tile and what would be the effect on the radiant heat system efficiency? Our climate is pretty cold in winter.

Tile over tile can be done with a bit of prep and the correct modified thinset---

I doubt that the extra layer of tile will affect the heating noticably---you are adding thermal mass---

Is the existing tile set correctly? No loose or hollow tiles?

The tiles all seem to be set correctly - there are chips around the edges, one "gouge" about 1 inch around, and a few cracks that are not lifting.

The tile store quoted $2/square foot to demolish, and at 1700 square feet of tile, I don't know if it's worth it. BUT, If we tile over tile, we still have to adjust doors, remove and adjust outdoor french and sliding doors to adjust height, raise 2 toilets (?), and whatever else needs adjusting. The cost of adjustments may make demolition seem cheap...???

That's not an unfair price---you will have a better install---if it's in the bank and you can spare it---I would recommend removing the old tile---

However---a safe install can be done over the top of good sound existing tile-----
