Tile over Linoleum

I am going to be finishing off a downstairs basement bathroom. The bathroom has 12x12 self adhesive Linoleum squares installed as flooring (over the concrete). Removing this flooring is a pain from what I have heard. Could I put some type of underlayment/plywood over the top of the linoleum and then tile the room? Or am I stuck trying to remove the existing flooring?

Secondly, how do I raise the toilets sewer pipe elevation to match the tile floor?

Many Thanks!

The tiles should be pealed off---It's a pain but you can do it----usually a scraper and a hammer is all that is needed----A multi tool with a scraper is a time saver if you have one---A heat gun also helps.

Worst case --the tiles are stuck forever?--Use a two part thinset like Kerabond and Keralastic--That will stick nicely to the old tiles--as long as you strip off any wax or dirt.

Never ever put plywood over a concrete floor---that nearly always fails.

It is not recomended to go over a tile floor. That said, I have done it many times. You will need to make sure all tile are glued tight to the floor. You cand go dirrectly over tile or a ditra sub-flooring. Box stores carry this.
As for the raising the floor, when you get a new wax ring for the stool, purchase a jumbo wax ring. then get just a regular wax ring and, if needed cut in 1/2 and put on top on other ring. If you have a straight pipe for the supply line you will need to get a new supply line for toilets and stool bolts. Get the 3 and 1/2 inch ones. You will need a hack saw to cut the bolts to put the caps on.

Yeh, I think I found a floor scraper I can rent to do the job.. or make it easier..

Also I found an adapter that will raise the toilet flange up to the new elevation with the tile..

The toilet flange is the proper way to do it .
I inspected a few wood floor failures in powder rooms where the plumber , or installer put a double wax ring .

Why don't you use Allure from Home Depot? No need to remove existing flooring.

I never knew of Allure until you mentioned it.. I have my heart set on tile for the bathroom, however, I am thinking Allure might be an option for the workout room. Thanks for the tip!

I would suggest that you read some on the threads on here concerning allure before you decide if you want it.
