Tile a Lanai or other ideas?

I have a condo in Florida that has a small lanai (120 sq ft).

Right now, it is just rough painted concrete and is a didaster to clean up.

I want to get a surface on there that I can mop clean so it needs to be smooth.

My initial though was tile. If I use tile, can I just get the pre made thin set from the Depot and us that right on the concrete to set it? Anything else I need to be aware of?

Also, is there any other option like a skim coat of concrete or somthing easier?

In order to tile over cement, it needs to be free of all paints, sealers or adhesives. Also, premixed thinset isn't really thinset at all. It's a form of mastic and you don't use mastic for flooring applications. You want to tile it, you need to grind the paint off and start with a clean cement surface.

Sorry to be the bad news guy.

Ok, interesting. Many people have had their done and none were grinded down. I am interested in this as I also thought that would need to be done.

Not sure about the others but I use the TCNA Handbook as a guideline. That's where the info comes from. I'm not making it up as I go.
