Tile for the Kitchen.

Dear DIY Folks,

After 16 years in my home which was custom built new, I have decided to
replace linoleum on my kitchen floor with real tile.

Below are my questions:

1. I have plywood under the the linoleum and my walls are straight.
How should the floor be preped for the tile?

2. What should I expect to pay for the installation of a 100 sq. feet
of tile including the removal of the linoleum?

3. Any things I should watch out for such as expansion issues, removing baseboard trim, style and placement of tile (at an angle), etc.?

Thanks in advance,
Jak Ray

Tile for the Kitchen.

1. Tile floor require a very rigid subfloor min. of 1 1/4" thick. The top layer should be a tile backer board, cement board or hardibacker. This often raises the floor far enough to create toe knockers into adjacent rooms, stepped/sloped thresholds can fix this.
2. Costs vary considerably across the country and depending on the job, sorry, check local contractors.
3. There are some good DIY tile books in big box libraries, pick one up. It will answer more questions that we can in this space.
