Tile discoloration by grout
I just installed 65 sq.ft of 1 inch hexagon tiles in my bathroom. They were Daltile brand. They are white with black grout. Some of the tiles took on a grey color after being grouted. The grout came right off but some of these tiles seemed to soak in the color. It is random but very noticable. They are glazed tiles. Is this a tile flaw? Can I clean it up?

I'm assuming you've contacted Daltile, no? What did they say?
|
Did you use a white thinset?
Is the discoloration just at the edges where the grout was? |
I bought the same tiles and the exact same thing happened to me, but I used white epoxy. What did you end up doing about it?
|
Well....white tile with black grout....big chance of staining.....what did you expect? That is likely to happen. It's a difficult installation and why I never recommend black grout unless the customer insists and pays a bit extra of course. It takes a lot more time to do.

No- I did not use black grout like the other guy. I used white epoxy grout. The white tiles are different shades. I think its just a manufacturing defect.
