Tile Cutting
 

About to get ready to tile my bathroom floor. I layed out the tile to see how it was going to come together. Using 12x12 tiles, I am ending up with about a 4 inch gap between the tile and the carpet. Is it ok to cut the tile and lay it only 4 inches wide? If so should i lay the 4 inch piece toward the door of the bathroom or the closest?

When ever possible you want your cuts where not going to be noticed.
Most often behind the toilet, under the vanity area.
Not in front of the door or in front of the tub.

Why not split the difference and make each end 8"?

Definitely no 4" piece at the doorway. A small piece like that might be OK at the opposite wall, otherwise 8" on both would be best.
