tile for countertop
I was recently in a tile wearhouse in Tex.and found some granit floor tile that is almost like what we picked out for granit countertops.I was just wondering if the same tile could be used for a countertop. It would come out a lot cheeper if I did it myself as to haveing slabs of granit cut and fitted.Any input would be welcome

Yes, it can be done. However, you need to substantially support the heavy stone tiles. I'm just walking out the door right now so I'll send you a link on what you should do. Anything less is not recommended although I see people "taking a chance" just because of the height requirements of a job done this way:

Bill Vincent is a very qualified and reputable tile installer. I would listen to his advice!

I would NOT do less than this (and this is pushing "minimum" as it is):

Good luck!

Thanks the link had some good info.I have some 1 inch plywood I was going to use then a layer of felt paper and then at least 1/2 cement board so I think I will be good on covering the min plus some.I am also reinforcing my cabinets and how the are mounted. The tile I was looking at was at least 1/2 inch and I have always use a reinforer in my thinset or skincoatings so I should be in good shape here

Agree with the need for more support. Great visual from the previous post!

As long as the formica is in good condition. You can sand it to rough it up and install granite tile with modified thinset.
