I should have jointed this chatroom about a year ago when I first started my project. Unfortunately I'm a do nothing myselfer and I've been paying a young guy I know to help rehab my first HUD home. He tackled nearly part of the house with me. I'm always curious about the prices he gives me on various jobs. As we're finishing up, the latest is endeavor is thresholds.

He's customizing pieces of left over pine to fit four threshold areas throughout my house. He's charging me $20/a piece. Only thing I have to do is stain them first. Am i being ripped off or is that reasonable?

This is the same guy who rocked my entire 1600 sq. foot house for $500 so I always give him the benefit of the doubt with pricing

Shame on you.
You still owe him money for the rock job.

OMG Whiteryno, Bud is being kind. How could you? And now you're thinking a lousy 20 bucks is too much, I can imagine how much time it takes to make those thresholds, can you? ......

Assuming he installed the 1600 ft. of CBU correctly and you paid for all the materials and had everything delivered, a full retail would be over $4,000. Back out the materials, and so labor is about $2600-2700. You can find many that would have done it for about $2,000 or even less. You now you do this.

You should thank him very much, tip him and recommend him to friends.

Jaz, when he said he rocked it, I think he meant drywall(sheetrock).

OH? OK I've heard the term used for both sheet rock and Durock.

Actually that makes the situation even worse.

Well in that case you guys are gonna love this. He painted my whole house including ceilings and primer, installed all trim and baseboard, and installed 11 windows for $1500 total. He had a lot off add ons throughout the job that added up quick but yes his prices have been unbeatable I guess

Yeah I'm a young guy myself and kind of just scraping together cash for the rehab. Glad I signed up for this chat room though. I have a new found respect for his pricing

Ok how about this price? 150 to install a kitchen sink and hook up the plumbing in the basement. It was all disconnected when I moved in. That seems high to me but what do I know
