threshhold under door over tile floor?

I am re-tiling my kitchen with ceramic tile. There is a wooden door leading from the kitchen downstairs to the laundry room. After opening (in) the door, there's about 16 inches of level floor from the kitchen. The door (stairs) leads to an unheated area and needs to be fairly sealed from downstairs. Previously , I had just continued the kitchen tile under a the door with no threshhold or any thing else and relied on a door sweep to control the air. Should I place a threshhold atop the finished tile, abut the tile to the threshhold or something else. thanks

threshhold under door over tile floor?

I would think it to be easier to add something to the bottom of the door. I don't like the idea of a raised threshold 16" from going down some stairs. Unless you have a stunt double that doesn't mind the thought of somersaults down the stairs

threshhold under door over tile floor?

when talking about stairs always go safety first! Not to mention that it will seal better than any threshold and look better.
