Question

Is there asbestos in horse hair floor padding?

I live in an old farm house built in 1900. There are hardwood floors, however they have been covered by carpeting. I was going to rip up the old carpet and refinish the hardwood underneath. However, when I started tearing up the carpet, the padding appears to be of horse hair consistency (as opposed to the foam padding used in newer homes). I know there is a history of asbestos in horse hair plaster, but does this floor padding have it too? Thanks in advance for any input!

PS- Any advice for this project in general is appreciated. I think I'm in over my head!
