Tearing up old kitchen floor and a surprise...

Bought an old Victorian and I am tearing up what are certainly asbestos ridden kitchen tiles. Underneath these are a fabric mesh made out of potato sack like material. What is this? Would there be asbestos in this material?

What kind of glue/mastic do you have under those tiles? If it's the black stuff, that probably has asbestos in it.

No idea what the potato sack is though.

yes it does. But not enough to be too concerned with. Keep the floor wet as you remove it with a floor scraper. Asbestos is only a problem with it becomes dust. This stuff does not do this, it does break into small pieces, but that is still not too much of a concern. Use a dust mask for extra protection.
