Sub Floor Mold/Roots

Hello All,

I am remodeling my house (built in the '60s) and after removing the hardwood flooring in one of the bedrooms due to rot I have discovered what looks like it might be some type of mold. I have searched the internet but did not come across anything that looked like this.

The best way to describe the stuff is it looks like roots growing between the tar paper and subfloor and between the tar paper and the hardwood floors.

Has anyone run across this and if so does anyone have any suggestions. I already removed half of the subfloor and plan to finish removing the rest this week. Is there anything else I need to do?

It would be my guess that's it's the run off of the asphalt paper that was put down as vapor barrier between hardwood and subfloor which should have been rosin paper used not that stuff cuz your sandwiched the moisture resulting in what you see not actually roots but it no good for the plank floor you have now.

I say take it out if you can put new ply down.

Is there a vaper barrier under the house, if it's a crawl space?

The only vapor barrier was the tar paper between the subfloor and hardwood floors.

I currently have half of the subfloor removed and will have the rest of it removed this week.
